The Hon. J. William Middendorf II, Chairman

middendorfAmbassador Middendorf studied under Joseph Schumpeter at Harvard and Ludwig von Mises at New York University, founded his own investment bank, Middendorf, Colgate and Company, and was later President and Chief Executive Officer of First American Bankshares, Inc., a bank holding company based in Washington.

Middendorf has served a number of presidential administrations in high-level positions, including Secretary of the Navy and Ambassador to the European Communities, the Organization of American States, and the Netherlands. A delegate to presidential nominating conventions as far back as Barry Goldwater’s in 1964, Middendorf remains active in shaping conservative foreign, defense and economic policy through regular meetings with staff members on Capitol Hill.

Daniel Oliver Jr., President

Daniel Oliver Jr. appears regularly as a guest on financial media outlets, lectures at monetary and investment conferences, and frequently publishes articles on gold, interest rates, and the Federal Reserve. He has been a director of the Committee for Monetary Research & Education since 2011.

Mr. Oliver graduated from Columbia Law School with honors and practiced law in the corporate division of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. He left Simpson Thacher to obtain an MBA from INSEAD. After co-founding two venture companies, Mr. Oliver joined Bearing Capital, LLC, a private equity firm in Buenos Aires focused on Latin American commodities investments. Mr. Oliver founded Myrmikan Capital in 2009, an advisory firm specializing in precious metals investments.

Sean Fieler, Director

Sean FielderMr. Fieler serves as Chairman of the American Principles Project. He is Chairman of the Chiaroscuro Foundation and serves as a board member of the Witherspoon Institute, the Manhattan Institute, the Dominican Foundation, the Committee for Monetary and Research & Education, the Acton Institute and the Susan B. Anthony List.
A graduate of Williams College with a degree in political economy, Mr. Fieler speaks and publishes on the topic of monetary reform. He has given talks on monetary policy at the annual Grant’s Conference, the Atlas Liberty Forum and has written for The Wall Street Journal and The Weekly Standard.

Walker F. Todd, Director

biopg_toddWalker F. Todd is an attorney admitted to practice in Ohio and New York and worked as both legal and research officer at the Federal Reserve Banks of New York and Cleveland for 20 years. He has taught Special Studies courses at Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, NY, since 1997 and was an adjunct faculty member of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University, for 13 years. He holds a Ph.D. in French from Columbia University and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.

Howard Segermark, Director

segermark1Howard Segermark is President of Howard Segermark Associates, a government relations and association management firm. He is a Senior Economic Consultant to the American Family Business Institute and a Visiting Fellow in Monetary Policy at the Heritage Foundation.
In recent years, Howard has testified before state legislative committees or regulatory commissions in over twenty states and represented clients before the FCC, FTC, IRS and other agencies. He currently serves as the senior Trustee on the American Motorcyclists Association Political Action Committee and is a founding Director of the National Civic Art Society. He also Vice Chairman of the Board of the Institute on Religion and Public Policy and a long-time member of the Philadelphia Society.
Previously, he was Vice-President of A. B. Laffer Associates, the supply-side economic consulting firm founded by economist Arthur Laffer and prior to that he was Economic Counsel to a member of the U. S. Senate where he developed monetary and tax legislation and legislative strategy. During this period he founded and administered the Institute on Money and Inflation, a public policy research organization dedicated to the study and dissemination of information on sound money.
